RESUME

JAMES PAT” YOUNG

Pat Young is a seasoned Engineer with experience with both circuit design and electronic packaging / interconnect design.  He has over 25 years experience working in the electronics industry.  Pat re-joined E-M Designs in early 2008.  He had also worked as an Electrical Engineer with Gerhard Engineering from July 1990 to November of 1994.

Pat has extensive experience using Solidworks for 3-D mechanical design, Cosmosworks for stress analysis, and Floworks for thermal simulations.  Pat is also fluent with MicroCap (analog SPICE simulations) and Altium (Schematic/PCB Layout) tools. 

Pat's recent expertise is in the area of high speed data communications up to GHz speeds with a focus in interconnection technologies and high speed signal integrity.       

He is a holder of a number of patents and was a primary proponent, author, and connector designer for the eSATA standard.  Pat is well versed in the areas of agency and safety regulations and certifications (FCC, UL, CE, TUV, CA, etc.).  As an EMI and ESD control specialist, mentor, and author, he has functioned as a world wide regulatory compliance officer bringing dozens of products through certifications.

Senior Electrical / Mechanical Engineer

Pat’s responsibilities include both electrical Engineering and mechanical Engineering.  Although he has only been with E-M Designs a short time, he has already established himself as an invaluable member of our design team. 

He has been the primary package designer of a high volume Point of Sale device for a major corporate client.  Pat’s responsibilities have included incorporation of Industrial Design (ID) concepts into the production parts, ergonomic considerations, generation of the master 3-D CAD model, and component / material selections.

Pat’s responsibilities included both system and product design with a focus on interconnection technology and high-speed signal integrity.  Fluent in multiple CAD systems for digital design. Extensive use of Solidworks for 3-D mechanical design, Cosmosworks for stress analysis, and Floworks for thermal simulation.  Use of C language for fabricating custom production and data acquisition systems.  Multiple patents and patent applications pending.  Primary product designer of over a dozen products, some specific examples:

Technician

Production and field technician on industrial strain gage based weighing systems.  Built tested and installed weighing systems, batching systems and thrust stands used for rocket engine development.  Performed on-site modifications and both mechanical and electrical design a well as production engineering.

Laboratory technician

Maintained entire plotter and controller product line to component level in field engineer training facility.  Extensive micro code experience on TTL based mini computers.
